1)

2) The children are prevented from sending a letter to the person who leaves the gifts in the tree because Mr Radley fills the hole with cement. Mr Radley fills the hole because i think he doesnt want the kids to get the gifts anymore.

3)There is evidence that jem is more mature and older in this chapter because when he tells scout" dont you cry, scout dont cry now, dont you worry" it shows that jem is more mature and comforts her when she is upset.

Question 1
Jem does not fear the gifts in the tree anymore. This is because Jem believes he knows who is leaving the gifts there. He shows this when he allows Scout to eat the gum because earlier in the story he would not allow her to because it was poison. He also has kept all the gifts in a box.

2)They are prevented because Mr.Radley fills the knot hole where they found the gifts up with cement. He does this because he says that the tree is "dying".

Chapter 7 #3
There is some evidence that Jem is more mature than Scout because Jem is able to comprehend some things a lot more than Scout can.
In the case of the cemented over knot-hole, afterwards Jem asks Atticus about the fact that the tree didn't look sick/dying, therefore Jem knew something about Mr. Nathan Radley's story did not make sense.
